The alcohol excuse

November23

Where there is drinking going on, sooner or later there is often stupidity.

People begin to say and do ridiculous things.  Guys begin inserting multiple cuss words into every sentence.  Girls start to act like sluts.  Occasionally, someone will try to start a fight which quickly ends almost before it begins.  People tend to begin thinking they are smarter, stronger, and hotter than they really are, leading to some really silly behavior that many times ends in an embarrassing, stumbling mess if they’re lucky.  Unfortunately it’s all too often a regrettable, irreversible blunder.

This fact is what gives those who abstain from all alcohol (and believe everyone else should, too) fuel for their fire.   They reason that alcohol obviously leads to some really disgraceful actions, and so if everyone would just avoid it they’d be a lot better off.  There is a good point there.

But this isn’t a post about alcohol, or a written defense for responsible drinking.  Alcohol isn’t really the problem here, just as guns really aren’t the problem in drive-by shootings and expensive clothing isn’t the problem in shoplifting.   People acting like idiots when they drink is a heart issue.

Alcohol consumption can be just an excuse to manifest the stupidity that is already in the heart.

Alcohol has a loosening-up effect on one’s system that can bring the pleasant effects of relaxation and enjoyment.  It’s easy to take this too far and somewhere along the line, people have mistakenly gotten the impression that if they behave foolishly while drinking, they cannot be held fully responsible.

But their actions didn’t result from a force suddenly appearing out of thin air, hijacking their mouth and limbs, and making them do absurd things.

No, even after consuming several drinks a person is well aware of what they are doing, saying and being… They just have gotten to a point where they don’t care.

For them, an alcoholic drink is no longer a blessing to be enjoyed with thankfulness, it is a misguided justification to be stupid.
